چکیده

This paper describes three types of gold electrodes, each with at least one spatiai dimension as small as 1 prm, fabricated using combinations of micromachining and molecular self-assembly. (i) Large-area (>0.1 mm2) arrays of band-type electrodes were formed by machining micrometer-wide grooves of bare gold into gold frlm covered with a -23-A-thick, electrically insulating, self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of CHs(CHz)rsS. (ii) Micrometer-wide, centimeter-long, 100-nm-thick gold electrodes supported on glass were fabricated by patterning a gold film with monolayers of CHs(CHz)rsS and HO(CHz)zS, and selectively etching the regions of gold covered with HO(CHz)zS using an aqueous solution of CN saturated with Oz. (iii) T\vo microelectrodes, each with electrochemically active areas as small as 100 nm x l rrm and separated from each other by a distance of I !rm, were formed by machining a l-pzm-wide gap into a supported gold wire covered with an electrically insulating SAM of CHs(CHz)rsS; exposed gold on either side of the machined gap formed the electrochemically active surfaces of the microelectrode pair.

Bulk Titanium Microfluidic Networks for Protein Self-assembly Studies

We report the use of a newly developed micromachining technique to fabricate microfluidic networks in thin titanium foils. These devices are used to geometrically confine and align self-assembled protein systems for confocal microscopy and transmission x-ray scattering experiments. X-ray attenuation can be easily reduced or eliminated from the thin foil devices by backside etching or through-et...

Diamondoids and DNA Nanotechnologies

Diamondoids are cage-like saturated hydrocarbons consisting of fused cyclohexane rings. The Diamondoids family of compounds is one of the best candidates for molecular building blocks (MBBs) in nanotechnology to construct organic nanostructures compared to other MBBs known so far. The challenge is to find a route for self-assembly of these cage hydrocarbons and their applications in the bottom-...

Synthesis and characterization of supramolecule self-assembly polyamidoamine (PAMAM) G1-G1 NH2, CO2H end group Megamer

Supramolecule self assembly polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer refers to the chemical systems made up of a discrete number of assembled molecular subunits or components. These strategies involve the covalent assembly of hierarchical components reactive monomers, branch cells or dendrons around atomic or molecular cores according to divergent/convergent dendritic branching principles, systematic f...

Quantum Chemical Investigations on C14C10-Branched-Chain Glucoside Isomers Towards Understanding Self-Assembly

Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations have been carried out using a Polarizable Continuum Model (PCM) in an attempt to investigate the electro-molecular properties of branched-chain glucoside (C14C10-D-glucoside) isomers. The results showed that αconfiguration of pyranoside form is thermodynamically the most stable, while the solution should contain much more β...

Manipulation of the wettability of surfaces on the 0.1- to 1 -micrometer scale through micromachining and molecular self-assembly.

Micromachining allows the formation of micrometer-sized regions of bare gold on the surface of a gold film supporting a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of alkanethiolate. A second SAM forms on the micromachined surfaces when the entire system-the remaining undisturbed gold-supported SAM and the micromachined features of bare gold-is exposed to a solution of dialkyl disulfide. By preparing an ini...
